The Annual Exhibition is the core of the RSA’s exhibition programme, and represents the Academy’s commitment to promoting excellence in visual art in Scotland. In light of the current extraordinary circumstances, the RSA team has been working hard to ensure that the exhibition goes ahead in a new, entirely digital format.
The artist: "'Electra's Aria' is part of the 'In The Close Distance' series. These sculptures were constructed using rolled and folded laser cut aluminium sheets. Starting with computer drawings the aluminium was laser cut to produce a vast quantity of elements which became the ‘raw material’ which inspired the sculptures.
"I was interested in making sculptures which reveal in layers, dealing with inside and outside. The sculptures have openings which display an inner world and complexity. The colour in these sculptures acts as a code to emphasise these layers."
